Mathys and Adkin win gold at European Mountain Running Championships

Maude Mathys (SUI) and Jacob Adkin (GBR) win European Mountain Running Championships in Zermatt, Switzerland.
Italy was the gold medal winning women’s team with Elisa Sortini (5th), Valentina Belotti (7th), Alessia Scaini (10th) and Erica Ghelfi (25th). France and Switzerland took the silver and bronze team medals. There were 15 full teams in the women’s race.
Great Britain won the gold medal in the men’s team race with Jacob Adkin (1st), Robbie Simpson (7th), Andrew Douglas (9th) and Sebastian Batchelor (18th). Italy and Norway took the silver and bronze men’s team medals. There were 18 full teams in the men’s race.
The senior women and men raced a 10.1 km course with 1030 meters of ascent and 45 meters of descent.
In the men’s U20 junior event, Joseph Dugdale (GBR) won the race followed by Alain Cavagna (Italy) and Ramazan Yorulmaz (TUR). In the women’s U20 junior event, Barbora Havlickova (CZE) took gold followed by Angela Mattevi (ITA) and Ruken Tek (YUR).
Great Britain won the U20 men’s team event followed by Turkey and Italy. Italy won the U20 women’s team event followed by Turkey and Romania.
The U20 juniors ran a 5.9 km course with 440 meters of ascent and 75 meters of descent.
